Redang Seko, September 6, 2025 — A gender awareness event themed “Together for Equality and Prosperity” was held at the Community Food Bank Building on Jalan Talau in Redang Seko Village, Lirik Subdistrict, Indragiri Hulu Regency. The event was attended by various members of the community, including members of the “Seger Jahe” and “Beras Kencur” Women Farmers’ Groups, as well as residents of Redang Seko Village. A total of 192 participants attended the event, consisting of 123 women and 69 men.
The event was facilitated by Widya Erti Indonesia (WEI) and attended by several teams and facilitators from WEI. Also present were representatives from the Agricultural Extension Center (BP3)—Gusmayadi and Hafsah—as well as a representative of the village government, the Head of Hamlet V, Redang Seko. The main presentation was delivered by Sukirman, WEI’s Project Officer for gender issues. In his presentation, he discussed the basics of gender, gender roles in daily life, and the importance of equality in various aspects, particularly in the oil palm sector.
“An understanding of gender is not only important in the domestic sphere but also has a broad impact on community development. When the roles of men and women are valued fairly, solidarity, equality, and well-being can be achieved more comprehensively,” said Sukirman. The event was conducted in an interactive and participatory manner. The participants’ enthusiasm was evident in the lively discussions, which raised collective awareness of the importance of women’s participation in social and economic development, particularly in the context of agriculture.
This outreach initiative is part of a gender-equality-based community empowerment program organized by Widya Erti Indonesia with support from Unilever Indonesia. Through this initiative, it is hoped that a strong foundation will be laid to create a more just, inclusive, and sustainable society, while also fostering harmonious and equitable families.
